NATIONAL ADOPTION MONTH #10FOR10 CHALLENGE

by Helpusadopt.org

Rebecca Ashby

My journey to becoming an adoptive momma was a long one. It started in 2007 when my husband and i started our infertility journey after having trouble conceiving.  But, after 67 needles to my stomach, 17 ultrasounds, 1 laparoscopic surgery, 3 failed IUI's and 1 failed IVF, we were ready. Ready to move on. We realized that we wanted to be parents and it wasn’t about just being pregnant. We wanted to parent more than anything. We took the time to grieve, & moved on with our adoption plan in May of 2009.
Aside from the emotional roller coaster that comes with adoption are the huge expenses. These were expenses that we never thought we would be faced with - especially after spending thousands of dollars with the fertility doctors. But, we did it. We sacrificed date nights at fancy restaurants for new meals we would cook together at home; We didn't go on vacation; We cancelled all extraneous bills; We didn't buy a new car like all of our friends were at the time; We cut back on anything that we possibly could, and we took out a loan-because back in 2009, our adoption costs were nearing $40,000. I can't explain in words how incredibly overwhelming this was.
Our son is now 6 & I just knew all along God had a bigger plan for me. That plan is to help others with their adoption. So I'm here asking for any dollar amount you can give so that the financial weight of another person's journey is just a tad bit lighter.

10 years ago, our founders, Becky and Kipp Fawcett, asked a question that no one was asking and started a conversation that really mattered: What happens when people can't afford adoption? What began as a question has become a thriving, national 501(c)(3) grant program. Thanks to generous donors like you, Helpusadopt.org has awarded 230 adoption grants totaling over $2 million since 2007.

For the last ten years, we have helped place children in permanent homes so they can grow up knowing the support and love of a family; so that they can receive the life-saving medical treatments they require; so that they can enjoy just being a carefree child. But for every family we help, there are 10 more we have to turn away. We can't help but think about the children and families we are not able to help; they are no less deserving.

During National Adoption Month we hope you will accept our challenge and donate $10 (or more!) in honor of Helpusadopt.org's 10th Anniversary. Your contribution to Helpusadopt.org can change a child's life. #10For10
